Survey music and media

Survey 2012

Survey Musik und Medien 2012 delivers a multitude of answers to the question: “How do the Germans listen to music nowadays?” For that purpose, we provide CATI-based representative interview data on the Audio Media Usage of the German population in 2012 as well as a respective usage classification scheme in terms of Audio Repertoires. In addition, we are currently conducting a face-to-face household follow-up interview study in order to determine the social origins of distinct usage patterns and to determine the functions of various audio services, devices and infrastructures within the daily routine of their users. Background: The digitalization of our media environment within the last two decades has lead to diverse new alternatives concerning the technological means of music reception and playback in terms of Audio Sources, Audio Devices and Audio Emitters. Nevertheless, the Germans are also still using traditional recordings, devices and speaker or headphones quite frequently. Rather typical are combinations of those manifold alternatives – an enormous challenge for empirical research which we approach through a mixed methods research design.
